The rule ledger
A rule is not a habit and not a belief. It was installed before you had any say. So you cannot argue with it. You can only name it, date it, price it and replace it. Everything here saves on this device.
What “The rule ledger” means, in plain English
The money rules you inherited, written down and priced. Name the rule in the sentence you heard it in, say who said it, work out what obeying it costs you in a year, then write the replacement in your own words.
Four steps, and the order mattersInherited ruleA money sentence you did not choose and have never tested. "Business is a gamble." "A government job is safe." It arrived from somebody who meant well, in conditions that no longer exist, and it is still making decisions for you.
01
Name it
Write the exact sentence, in the language you heard it in. A rule you cannot quote is a rule you cannot look at.
02
Date it
Who said it, and roughly when. Attaching the conditions turns a truth back into a tool.
03
Price it
What obeying it has cost you, in money, over five years. Everybody skips this one. It is the only one that changes what you do next.
04
Replace it
One sentence, first person, said out loud once. Leave the space empty and the old sentence moves back in.
What these rules have cost you
—
Five years, at the yearly figures you entered. No total appears while any named rule still has no price on it. A figure built from the two easy ones would read as reassurance, and that is the one thing this page must never manufacture.

Nothing named yet
A rule you cannot quote is a rule you cannot look at. Pick one from the twelve. Or type the sentence you actually grew up hearing, in the language it was said in.
Next: Name one rule.
The subtraction almost nobody runs
Put 100 in a drawer today. This is what it still buys later. No thief, no mistake, no bad luck. The note still says 100 forever, which is exactly why the loss stays invisible until it is enormous.
| After 5 yrs | After 10 yrs | After 20 yrs | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5% a year | 78 | 61 | 38 |
| 10% a year | 62 | 39 | 15 |
| 15% a year | 50 | 25 | 6 |
| 20% a year | 40 | 16 | 3 |
Use your own country's rate, not the published one, and not the one you would prefer.
