The life ledger
Two halves. First, where a life actually goes, counted in hours. Then the five questions one number can never answer. Everything here saves on this device.
What “The life ledger” means, in plain English
Your day counted in hours, then multiplied by the years left. It is a subtraction, not a prediction — a yardstick for comparing your own habits against each other, and nothing about how long anybody will live.
Where the hours go
Drawn against a 63-year life. That is a yardstick for comparing habits against each other, not a prediction about you. 63 · 552,258 hrs
The only figure this page cannot work without.
| What | Hours a day | Share of a life | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sleep Not negotiable, and not the problem. | standard: 8 | — | |
| Work Include the commute and the evening messages. It is all work. | standard: 8 | — | |
| Washing and getting ready Every day, all of it. | standard: 1 | — | |
| Prayer The one row nobody regrets. | standard: 0.5 | — | |
| Social media Your phone knows this number. Use its figure, not the one you would like. | standard: 4 | — | |
| Entertainment Shows, video, games, scrolling that is not social. | standard: 4 | — | |
| Waiting around Queues, traffic, lobbies. About three hours a week. | standard: 0.43 | — |
0% of the day accounted for.
Add your own rows
The seven above are the session's list and they stay as they are. Add whatever else your day actually holds — reading, meetings, the gym, the commute counted on its own. Your rows are counted in every total on this page and saved with every reading.

The five profitsThe five profitsPurpose, Financial, Relational, Time, Spiritual. Five separate questions, deliberately never averaged. A yes in the money column does not pay for a no in the other four, and one score would hide exactly that.
Five columns, five questions, asked out loud. A yes in one does not pay for a no in another. That is the entire reason they are kept apart instead of averaged into a score.
Purpose
Why am I doing this?
What a no looks like You can describe the work and not the reason. Sundays feel heavier than they should.
Financial
Is my money working for me?
What a no looks like Income arrives and leaves. Nothing you own earns anything while you sleep.
Relational
Who grows because of me?
What a no looks like Nobody could name a thing they can do because of you. Not one person.
Time
Do I control my time?
What a no looks like Somebody else decides what your next four hours are for, most days.
Spiritual
Is my soul at peace with my success?
What a no looks like The wins do not settle. You have stopped asking how any of it was earned.

Answer all five before you read anything into it. Four out of five is what avoiding the fifth one looks like. And the fifth one is usually the finding.

Assets are the things that pay you back. Liabilities are the things that take. What you are worth is assets minus liabilities, in every part of a life and not only the money part. Three questions it forces. Which of these pays you back most, what costs you most, and what returns ten times over a whole life.
