Why the order matters more than the effort
- What it is
- The same handful of sensible actions, done in different orders, produce completely different results.
- Why it matters
- Money leaks in a fixed direction. An uncapped claim on your income absorbs any raise. An empty buffer turns any ordinary shock into a debt at the worst rate available that day. Expensive debt outgrows any saving. Fix these out of order and the effort pours into a container with no bottom.
- The method
- Cap what leaves before you try to save. Floor a small buffer before you attack debt. Kill the steepest rate first, never the smallest balance. Then raise the rate — and if the month is already running at a loss, the rate has to move before any of the rest is even possible.
- Example
- Weeks three to six of any honest attempt look like nothing is happening. Nothing is meant to be. That is what a container filling looks like from outside.
